James L. Bennington

Dr. James Bennington was born in Evanston, Illinois, grew up in Wisconsin, and attended the University of Chicago where he received his MD degree, an MS in medical microbiology, and his post graduate specialty training in Surgical Pathology. He showed an early aptitude for scientific and creative writing, authoring at the age of 8 a short novella (two pages), HOW PRICKLEY [sic] PORCUPINE GOT HIS QUILLS – as yet unpublished.

As a member of the venerable sixty-year-old San Francisco literary society, ‘the club’, he has produced 20 monographs on topics ranging from: Zen and the Art of Fly Fishing for Steelhead to The Influence of Marine Biologist, Edward F. Ricketts, on the Writings of John Steinbeck. After writing 20 non-fiction papers, he decided to write a short story mystery. This in turn led to his taking up creative writing full-time and turning his hand to challenging readers with the George Atwood mystery series.

Jim and his wife Josie, who is a concert pipe organist with a black belt in crossword puzzles, live in Montana. Jim’s passion for fly fishing lured them from the San Francisco Bay Area to a home in the Flathead Valley with a ranch in the nearby Swan Valley, both convenient to some of the best trout fishing in the West. They have two grown sons, one a Commander in the US Navy, the other an investment banker. Jim and Josie are both twin engine pilots with instrument licenses and never as happy as when they are traveling.
